In anticipation of Hurricane Sally, Brookhaven police closed Peachtree Creek Greenway for the next 48 hours.
The multi-use path opened in December following years of discussion, preparation and construction. The path is planned to eventually be 12 miles long, stretching from I-285 to the Atlanta Beltline.
Hurricane Sally, which reached Category 2 strength before making landfall in Florida, is predicted to produce downpours across North Georgia for the remainder of the workweek. Sally is projected to move through the state Thursday and enter South Carolina by Friday morning, according to the National Hurricane Center.
Nearly all of North Georgia, including DeKalb County, is under a flash flood watch, and metro Atlanta is expected to see up to 8″ of rain by Friday morning, according to Channel 2 Action News.
Police did not provide the specific time Friday when the Peachtree Creek Greenway will reopen. The department announced the closure in a tweet about 11:20 a.m.
