Hey here at the Woof Post, we get it! As a doting dog parent, you want your dog to be happy. Part of that happiness is feeding your dog good tasting and nutritious food, and occasionally giving him a taste of whatever food you happen to be enjoying as well.
A bite or two of human food is usually ok, but you need to be aware that some foods which are fine for humans are not good for your canine companion. Let’s take a look at just one of these foods…
Most people love avocados, with their buttery texture, especially when made into the spicy popular party dip, guacamole.
But avocados, the flesh and the pits, can spell real trouble for dogs.
First of all, the flesh can be toxic. Avocados contain a chemical compound called persin, which is present in the actual fruit, as well as the pits and leaves of the plant. Consumed in large quanities, this can cause vomiting and diarrhea. Of course, the smaller your dog is, the less the dog has to consume to be a problem.
Plus, in addition to containing persin, the pits are potential choking and intestinal obstruction hazards if swallowed.
So keep avocados and their pits away from your dogs.
