The Georgia State Patrol has found a shooting suspect’s car in Rossville after a police officer was shot Sunday during a traffic stop in Chattanooga, Tennessee, according to multiple media reports.

A helicopter hovered over the Milford Drive area in Rossville looking for the suspect, who has been identified as Christopher J. Kitts, 43, according to reporter Mary Francis Hoots of WRCB.

Kitts’ car was found in Rossville earlier Sunday, but he remains on the run, according to Hoots.

Hoots reported hearing several loud gunshots about 6:20 p.m. near Lakeview and Page Road.

The East Ridge officer, who was identified as Cpl. Terry Prescott, was shot during a traffic stop about 1:50 p.m. at Ringgold Road and John Ross Road in Tennessee, Police Chief Stan Allen told reporter Rosana Hughes.

The officer reportedly is in stable condition, Hoots reported.
