Discount grocer Aldi will open two new metro Phoenix stores Nov. 5 after years of planning to expand into Arizona, the company announced Monday.
The company this summer confirmed it would open four Valley locations by the end of the year. The two opening Nov. 5 are:
Chandler. 2844 S. Alma School Road.
Goodyear. 845 N. Estrella Pkwy.
Both stores will be open from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. and will offer grocery delivery and curbside pickup, the company said.
“We’re thrilled to continue expanding in the Southwest, and we take great pride in reaching this milestone as we open our first Arizona stores,” Tom Cindel, Aldi group director of operations and logistics, said in a written statement.
Two other locations, at 24665 N. Lake Pleasant Parkway in Peoria and at 1801 Pecos Road in Gilbert, are planned to open by the end of the year.
Jobs for the Valley locations are posted online at https://careers.aldi.us/PHOENIX.
Arizonans for years called for Aldi online
Arizonans first heard of the possibility of Aldi coming to metro Phoenix in 2018, when Aldi locations started coming up for Planning and Zoning Commission votes in Valley cities.
Since then, Facebook groups with hundreds of thousands of members have called on the discount grocery chain to open stores in their Phoenix suburb.
Aldi stores are typically smaller than most supermarkets. The chain already is popular in the Midwest and eastern U.S. — a frequent topic of conversation in Valley-based Facebook groups made up of Midwestern transplants.
Here’s how many Aldi locations are planned in the Valley
Aldi has submitted plans to Valley cities for 11 other stores, in addition to the four opening this year. Here’s where they stand:
