The original scores are nominated alongside the music from ‘Da 5 Bloods,’ ‘Minari’ and ‘News of the World.’
Nine Inch Nails multihyphenates Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross scored a pair of Oscar nominations on Monday, for the score of David Fincher’s Mank, the 1940-set biopic about Citizen Kane screenwriter Herman J. Mankiewicz, available on Netflix; and Pixar’s jazz-inspired animated film Soul, a nomination that they share with Jon Batiste.
For the Oscars, their scores are nominated alongside Terence Blanchard for Da 5 Bloods, Emile Mosseri for Minari and James Newton Howard for News of the World.
It’s been a big year for Reznor and Ross. Mank and Soul were also nominated for a Golden Globe Award, which with Batiste they won for Soul; and an upcoming BAFTA. They also won an Emmy last Fall, for the score of Damon Lindelof’s HBO limited series Watchmen.
The duo previously won an Oscar for the score of David Fincher’s The Social Network and a Grammy for the score soundtrack to Fincher’s The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo (Reznor has two additional Grammys for Nine Inch Nails’ music).
